This teaching handout is intended for second-year undergraduate students in Economics. It introduces the ethical principles expected to guide the conduct of individuals and organizations and examines their links to economic performance, organizational continuity, and public trust. Its central premise is that an enterprise’s success cannot be measured by profitability alone; it must also be assessed in light of professional values, stakeholders’ rights, and responsibilities toward society and the environment. Organized into thirteen thematic units, the handout progresses from the foundations of business ethics, their sources and development mechanisms, to professional ethics, codes of conduct, and ethical issues across business and managerial functions. It also examines administrative corruption, its dimensions and prevention mechanisms, corruption and governance indicators, and the connections between ethical conduct, organizational culture, and corporate social responsibility, alongside relevant international initiatives. The final unit draws on the experiences of Microsoft and Qatargas in business ethics and social responsibility. The handout’s educational contribution lies in connecting economic reasoning with legal, social, and behavioral perspectives, helping students understand the risks of unethical practices and the role of integrity, transparency, and accountability in improving organizational management.
